1. Durham, North Carolina – 25 December 2014

Durham, N.C. — A Durham police officer dove for cover Thursday night after a man walked up and began shooting at him, police said Friday.

The incident happened about 10 p.m. on Lakeland Street, just north of Truman Street. Police said Officer J.T. West was sitting in his patrol car, working on a report, when he saw two men approaching his car from behind.

As West got out of the car to speak to them, one of the men pulled out a gun and began firing, police said. The man fired six shots at West, striking the patrol car once.

Durham, N.C. — A Durham police officer’s home was damaged after it was shot at Monday afternoon, the department said.

The officer, who was not identified, was inside his home at the Atrium Apartments on Meriwether Drive at about 2 p.m. when the outer pane of his dining room sliding glass door was shattered, police said. The projectile did not enter the apartment.

3. Los Angeles, California – 28 December 2014

LAPD Ambush Rifle

The Los Angeles Police Department has declared a citywide tactical alert after two suspects fired at a patrol car with a rifle Sunday night.

The incident occurred at 62nd and Hoover streets at about 9:20 p.m. Police say every available officer has been sent to the area.

One suspect is in custody. A wide perimeter is set up from Gage Avenue to 61st Street and between Hoover Street and Vermont Avenue as officers search for the second suspect.

Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.

Neighbors are being warned to stay inside. A rifle has been recovered. No officers were injured.

4. Dade City, Florida – 28 December 2014.

DADE CITY — Bullets were fired at two Pasco County sheriff’s deputies who were on routine patrol in Dade City early Sunday, adding to the already nerve-racking time right now for law enforcement in the Bay area and beyond.

Around 3:30 a.m., the deputies were sitting inside their patrol cars in the parking lot of Northside Baptist church, 37047 Lock Street, monitoring the intersection of 21st and Lock streets. Three bullets were fired at them, authorities said.

No one was hit or injured but the incident has Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco beyond upset.

A Bronx teen who twice pointed his gun at cops and pulled the trigger — only to realize that he’d just emptied the weapon shooting out apartment windows — nearly hit several residents with his gunfire, police sources and witnesses said Sunday.

Raymond Leonardo, 17, had wildly fired six shots into a building on East 140th Street in Mott Haven around 9 p.m. Saturday before he aimed the gun at responding officers who showed up to answer a 911 call, police said.
