an M16 is the military version of the AR -15 and is capable of burst or full auto fire (depending on the model ie: M16A1 M16A2... etc)

dont know what an M5 is though- an M4 is a carbine version of the M16 used when a mission calls for a more compact weapon

M16A1 - earliest version used in vietnam, full- and semi- auto fire, triangle foregrip, had many reliability problems, which led to the;

M16A2 - intrduced in 1982, replaces full-auto w/ three round burst, and triangle foregrip w/ round grip.

AR15 - civlian version of M16 (any version), semi-auto only

M5 - no idea what you are talking about, but you might/probably mean one of the following;

M4 - shortened version of M16A2, with 16in barrel and full-auto fire introduced in 1994;

CAR15/XM177/Colt Commando- same as M4, but w/ 11.5 in barrel, introduced in 1965
