Enfield calling- but is it a good buy?

Recommended Posts

i was looking at aimsurplus.com a while ago because someone mentioned that there were some cheap sks rifles on it.

but what caught my eye was the no.1 mk3 lee enfield rifles they have. IMO these things are just plain sweet looking- but is 150 a good price?

[attachmentid=5579][attachmentid=5576][attachmentid=5577][attachmentid=5578]There are some very fine SMLE's and Enfields around, and this

may be the last large lot of good rifles. Most of the Number 1 Mk.III's

and many of the #4 rifles seem to be coming out of Turkey,

and other than coats of thick black paint on some of the

SMLE's, quality has been fine. Actually, I got 2 Lithgow rifles,

from AIM, and a Savage #4Mk.I* from SOG.

Take a look. Lots of sticky preservative, but not a pit between the

3 rifles. The Savage was about $180, but is near mint. Some

of the SMLE's are Ishapores, from India, which some people

dislike. Mine have been as good as any, frankly, and they are

a few bucks cheaper than the Lithgows from Australia.

I would suggest speed. There is also new wood around, though

I have become rather fond of the originals with all their warts

and bruises.
