Scoping My A2

Recommended Posts

I've recently decided that I'd like to drive tacks and shoot the nuts off a gnat with my ar15. It doesn't have a detachable carry handle and I have no experience with scopes of any kind.

Could someone tell me if it is possible and practical to put a scope on my carry handle and how I could go about doing this. Also can someone give me some info or point me in the right direction for general scope info because I have no idea where to even start.

Brownells sells a see through Scope mount for mounting on a carry handle. It does work ok. Some scopes come with adapters also for mounting. Only problem I have seen with these is they tend to work lose with lots of shooting. But a little blue ( NOT RED ) lock tight works fine. Here are the links to a couple.

the mount i have been using is a leupold mount. has a hex head nut running thru it and a star washer with a thumbscrew locking bolt turn the hex head out half maybe three quarters of a turn run the thumbscrew up till it's tight then turn the hex head till it's tight i have taken mine of and put it back on 10-15 times now with no loss of zero and after i figured out the nut trick it has never backed out. i'm only using a red dot but it works like a champ. same thing on the b-square mount i have on two other guns. 15 bucks and you have a mount add rings and a scope and your in.

I have used a Scope on an M-16 for years since the Army's policy was to not let anyone take the Sniper Rifles to use in the field. I have had some good successes with using a scope but the trigger that comes with a standard AR-15/M16 isn't the best for trying to get off a good shot like a match grade sniper rifles trigger is. All I have ever used was a good 3X9 powered scope and there arer plenty out there. The mount is the kind that sits on the carrying handle and is attached by a nut or round thumb screw thing at the bottom.
