Why the FreeRepublic.com Sucks
Well, after being a loyal reader of the Freerepublic.com for the past 5 years, I can no longer tolerate the change in political philosophy there.
It is now forbidden to discuss the President’s failure/refusal to control illegal immigration, protect the U.S. borders, enforce current immigration policy, or fund the Border Patrol as requested. Whatever you do, don’t mention that prosecutions for businesses hiring illegals has essentially stopped under the Bush Administration.
Want a border fence?
The Republicans cut the size in half to 370-mile fence instead.
Want troops to patrol the border?
You get 6,000 National Guard troops to do administrative duties.
Want 2000 new Border Patrol Agents like President Bush promised?
You only get 200 agents funded yet the Citizens Against Government Waste has identified $27.3 billion in wasteful spending on one highway bill alone.
How about requesting that the Bush Administration enforce current law on human smugglers?
You get only 6% of human traffickers prosecuted in 2004 with the remainder to go free to smuggle again.
The Government Accountability Office counted 2,849 immigration arrests in 1999, but just 159 in 2004, a decline of 94 percent. And the Washington Post reported that the number of “absconders” — those who were arrested for immigration violations and released on bail, and then simply disappeared — has risen by nearly half under Bush, to 536,000 in 2005.
Bush recently had the gall to say this, “”You know, there are some in our country who say, ‘Let’s just deport everybody.’ ” This is astounding. If these people are here illegally in the United States, current law requires them to be deported. It makes me want to pull my hair out. What happened to the rule of law?
Don’t like it? Don’t complain about your elected officials intransigence because that will not be tolerated at the FreeRepublic.
How about this Gem? Rewarding Identity Theft with Citizenship?
Senators also blocked an effort to deny Social Security benefits to legalized immigrants for work they performed while they were illegal or which they obtained through identity theft.
Additionally, any discussion that is critical of the Republicans Congress pork-barrel spending and uncontrolled line item expenditures will get you banned.
Ronald Reagan once said “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”
But, I think the folks that run the Freerepublic are no longer real Republicans and have turned into the ‘inside-the-beltway-Republocrats”.
What is a Republocrat, you ask?
You know the candidate that got elected on the promise of a smaller government and a national security platform … and turns around and spends public money like a drunken sailor on a Friday night while refusing protect our borders.
What ever happened to the Contract with America?
This is a short list of what’s wrong with these folks.
1) They support RHINO ( Republican in Name Only) candidates that voted to reward illegal aliens who had engaged in identity theft .
2) They give lip service to the Second Amendment by supporting Republicans that vote against Gun Owners.
3) They unconditionally support Republican candidates and stifle any criticism of them that would hold the politician’s feet to the fire.
An example of the bizarre non-Conservative philosophy mindset there was the Terri-Schiavo debacle. Real text book Republicans and Constitutional Conservatives might have abhorred the removal of her feeding tube, yet would have been disgusted by having Big Government Republicans interfere in a private issue.
Republicans are for less government, a smaller government, and more fiscally conservative government.
Any poster that dare state the facts about how swollen the federal budget is or how more legislation is on the books thanks to our Republic-rats, will resulted in getting Zotted or banned. I am not saying that Democrat Trolls should not be removed. But thoughtful party discussion should be encouraged.
This behavior is not reflective of a “FreeRepublic” but a Dictatorship where no criticism is tolerate and new ideas are purged.
Ronald Regan also is quoted as saying, “The simple truth is that we’ve lost control of our own borders, and no Nation can do that and survive. We ignore America’s lost sovereignty at our own peril.”
I don’t think the Freeper editors get it. Although, this is all my opinion, I think it is a big shame!

Thank you for articulating many of my views on illegal immigration. I’m a conservative and a veteran; I closed my business and came back in to the military and volunteered (and served) in Iraq with US Army Specops.
I came home to re-start the business and found an interesting situation: As a veteran I had lost clients to illegal aliens and companies that hired them. It has made it difficult to make a living, they are in essence subsidized labor. Illegals pay no taxes but avail themselves of all our social services and use the taxpayer funded infrastructure.
Illegals are here for the free ride, not for citizenship and freedom, I know, I work amongst them all the time. My company has dug in and makes no qualms about refusing to hire illegal aliens or any other criminals. This reduces my profit margin significantly, often I am working merely for wages and I feel betrayed when so called conservatives in political office pay mere lip service or worse, side with those who give amnesty to criminals and absolve them of their past, present and future theft and lawbreaking.
I also am, like you, a former Freeper who became disgusted at the censorship of opinions and ideas on the forum. While nobody wants to hear some loon from left field (or way out in right field), it seems that to make even the remotest criticism of the president, his administration or the status quo Republicans is allowed. I became disgusted with the rhetoric, anyone who disagrees is now either a liberal or a terrorist sympathizer, the mods will routinely strip your posts if they personally disagree with their content.
Freerepublic is rapidly becoming irrelevant, a hangout for spewing lunatics, trolling cowards and partisan punks who will sell out our conservative ideals and anything else so long as they don’t have to admit that the Republican party has a lot of traitors to the conservative cause in it.
Perhaps sites like yours will become the new bastions for holding firm to our conservative heritage and ideals. Keep up the good work!
