Who keeps a loaded weapon in the house?

I'm not sure that is a correct statement. If your using it for defense I think you better double check and make sure it's loaded as asuming it is loaded could get you into trouble in a defense situation.

No kids here, so the handy handguns are all loaded fully and with safety off. If I can lay my hand on a gun and pull the trigger it will go off.
Just added a pistol grip Mossberg 500 12-gauge to the collection. It will have the magazine loaded, safety off, but none in the chamber. I want someone coming in to hear that loading sound. Of course they will hear the six dogs first.

man, you cut down on what your reaction time is by having them loaded and safety off..thatd scare a bit though.

They were out of business for a while but they are back. http://www.featherusa.com In my opinion they make some of the best guns around.

Actually, my At-9 is quite old, and doesn't have a padle mag release it has a push style release. Here's a picture.

PS: I am aware of the irony of owning a 9mm which is in contrast to my signature.

If some perp makes it through the six dogs and my 12 gauge and Beretta, they still have to deal with my wife's S&W 10-5. I wonder if the poor guy would even be recognizable?

Seriously though, an empty gun makes a very poor hammer and if i am to choose self defence i will be prepared the instant necessity requires. I dont want to fumble around looking for magazines or speedloaders half asleep when the purp is very much awake and in my house.
That all said, i dont have any young'uns runnin round to worry 'bout, and if i did i would probably still keep one under my pillow B{

I have to answer no to this question for now, as I'm still living in my parents house (saving money for a GOOD place of my own, not some trashy apartment) and they asked that I keep my gun unloaded and locked up, and I respect their request, as they still allow me to keep it in the house.
Once I do get my own place, I will keep my loaded gun near me (in a lockbox/safe) for home and personal protection. I understand if someone brakes into my home, I will call the police from my cell phone, grab my firearm, my family, and flee the house and wait for the police. if I do not have to confront a badguy, I won't, but if they try to attack me or my family while I'm trying to get away, I want to be prepared.
