SKS info appreciated

6 posts in this topic

Will post more close ups later. But I need some help ID'ing the barrel on my SKS. I havent found any images that look like mine. The Yugo is close but mine is slightly different.

I appreciate any knowledge you can send my way as I am a newb to the SKS. I picked this up at a gun show this weekend after falling in love with the SKS i was firing at the range saturday morning. My buddy pulled it out and I was sucked in.

I paid $400 as you see it plus 3 high capacity (37 round) magazines and a carrying bag.

What you have there bud is a Chinese SKS rifle, with a bolt on muzzle device, which used to be a popular addition to these rifles. Usually held on with an allen screw after camming around the front sight block.

The chinese version of the sks is considered by many to be the best of them.

Thank you I appreciate it. I knew it was a Norinco but the muzzle device threw me. Any idea what the device adds as far as functionality.

Back in the day, it was considered "cool".. hehe. It was supposed to make rifle look like it had a flash supressor, which was banned during that time period your gun was imported. So someone bolted on a legal muzzle break instead.

Muzzle breaks were supposed to make them look more "AK" like or some such. Honestlly, the bolt ons aren't doing much, as the rifle's recoil is already so manageable.

when buying a sks the thing to look for is if it has a pinned barrell or a screwed in barrell.
