An interesting new upper from a company called Bohica Arms is getting a lot of buzz from other gun sites. Mostly because it's a .50BMG rifle for under $1000. Of course, that's just for the upper, but still, not bad.

Here's what a finished rifles looks like:



They offer these in .510DTC also, so that means us Californians and others suffering under the .50BMG ban can get one no problem.

I'm seriously considering one of these in the long term, however I have heard some issues with the first one that shipped. Issues include surface rust on one customer's upper, and minor fitting needed on the lower used with the upper to ensure that the hammer has free travel to strike the firing pin without hitting the walls/front end of the upper. My guess is though that these issues are the result of a small company just starting up, and these issues will hopefully be corrected, if not minimized, in time.

The owner seems like a good, honest guy that really is trying his best to offer a good product. You'll see him posting on a few gun forums talking about his product when someone else starts a topic. Google "Bohica Arms" and a few topics that he has posted in will come up.

Also, the uppers might not be under $1000 any more; it might have been just an introductory price. I'm not sure about it 100%.

Pretty cool. I have a lower looking for a mate. I've been looking at 50 beowulf. The only thing that stops me with the 50bmg is that I would have to buy a whole new press for it...

You can get a Lee Classic press with 50BMG dies for little to nothing at Midway.

A lot of people seem to be worried about that, however the recoil impulse directs most of the energy straight back, rather than down into the lower. If you are really worried you could always buy a stainless steel lower, but I think that it's a little overkill.

Besides, how much is a stripped lower? $120, maybe? Also, think about how often you will shoot a single-shot .50. The owner of Bohica arms has claimed that he put 500 rounds through one rifle. I personally probably wouldn't shoot that much in several years, mostly because of cost.

I'm curious about the mass of that thing. The AR isn't a heavy weapon, and the BMG is a stiff round.

I think that skinny little ar-15 stock will make the recoil feel like you've got an axe head against your shoulder.

I went to the site and didn't see anything about the barrel length, but it was just a quick scan. I couldn't imgaine buying something like a 50 and only having a 20" on it. It's a long range rifle let's see a long barrel.

I'd agree on the standard A2 stock. You'd probably have to pick up a thicker stock with a good recoil pad and possibly a rear hand hold to put on the lower.

Barrel lengths come in 24" and 30". I'm not sure, but I think the one pictured above is the 24" version.

I actually know what you're talking about. With that oversized handguard, it makes the barrel seem shorter than it really is. You can actually remove the handguard and still use the bipod without any problems.

Nice price for a .50BMG, I still see no point in a .50BMG though, even though I consider myself a bit of a survivalist. Gonna be taking out other vehicles are we?

I can't get this damn thing out of my head. It's the ultimate in impracticality. But there are these two wrecked cars that someone dumped at my river shooting site, and they're just begging to be destroyed . . . .

First things first, though. I still need an AR lower to put it on. I'm planning on getting that first, and then if Bohica Arms still has a good reputation then I'll start saving for the upper.

I have nowhere to shoot over 300 yards...I think it would be pointless for me to get one. That doesn't stop me from wanting one, though.

Looks like he's now offering a 36" fluted barrel, though it's a whopping $300 extra from the 26" version.

My range only goes out to 400 yards, but I do know there are a few members that shoot their .50's there.

It would probably tear the paper and knock over targets in nearby lanes all the way to the 25m line.

I've shot one at 15 yards (the berm was about 25 yards). It really didn't do anything special, aside from rocking people down the firing line with the muzzle blast.
