whats the value of...

Recommended Posts

I was at my local fun shop making a layaway payment.

and I was looking at a couple of preban Colts he had. they were LEO tradeins and had never been fired.

any way I told him I would love to find an early COLT slabside and he tells me a dealer friend of his has one and he will get it for me to look at.

my question is. what is a late 60s SP1 in excellent condition worth ?

TIA

Checking the book, I find a value of :

NIB - $2100

Exc - $1500

VG - $1100

Good- $700 (this grade would apply if parts have been replaced)

Fair - $600 (NRA "Fair" condition is really grim)

Poor- $400 (this would be pretty much a basket case)

Since you could buy a new Bushmaster M4 for around $900 retail, I would not pay more than $1200 for slab side pre-Ban SP1 as there is a large amount of them available.

Are they colllectible?

Yes to a niche market.

Why would you want one over a brand new M4?

They are easy to convert to a machine gun with a registered DIAS or registered Lightning Link. Or Nostalgia or beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What are the downsides to a slab side AR15?

There is a notion that 'slab sides' lack the reinforced magazine fence are some how inherently less desirable because they are less sturdy. This is false.

Sounds pretty cool to me. Be sure to post pictures when you get it!

Wish I had an original. I wanted one so I got an SP1 upper and stock but I've got a current lower that's a differnet color from the upper. Oh well it's not a collector's item but I guess it will have to do.
