Head stamp meaning?

Question

I have some 7.62 rounds I found and was wondering how to desifer the headstamp codes They are 7.62, 69, ZV. I know one is the armor code but which one.

We need to know if it's 7.62x51, 7.62x39 or 7.62x54R.

Sounds like it could be from Czecheslovakia. Can't give any more info without more details on the cartridge.

They are 7.62x51 FMJ. also the primers are either painted or coated black. Sorry, should have given the info to start with. Thanks boomer

If my memory serves me correctly, some 7.62 xi 51 NATO was manufactured by the soviet bloc during the cold war, and the headstamps were of the same fashion that you described. The 69 is the year, 1969. The ZV means that it was manufactured in Czechoslovakia.

If I am wrong then so be it, but I wager that mtnboomer & I have a pretty good chance of being right on this one.

That's the site I use. It's pretty good but, of course, it can't list every headstamp, although it has a lot of them. ok>
